Selecting a best movies of the year list is always fun, but I think the word "best" is a bit arbitrary. What we're really doing is selecting our favorites. Last year I saw 159 new films in theaters, many of them at morning press screenings and usually with only two or three others joining me in this wonderful viewing pleasure. I do see movies with audiences at those special screenings that studios have, and on a number of occasions, if the picture hasn't been shown to us in advance, I'll catch it on opening day.
